This case followed the usual S137 route. Although Sophie was ‘of good character’ and reckoned she had ‘lawful excuse’ and ‘lawful authority’, the judge disagreed, rejecting necessity and lawful excuse. After summing up, he said, “I don’t doubt your sincerity. I have four children myself. As a judge, I would not encourage them to break the law”. |
